2021 IACS Feline Alumni Calendar
The 2021 IACS Feline Alumni Calendar - Here’s the Scoop!
The 2021 IACS Feline Alumni calendar is a custom-made, limited quantity calendar featuring Indianapolis shelter cats of all ages, colors, and sizes. Photographed, designed, and executed by yours truly, this project is a salute to our feline friends and a celebration of their unique and diverse nature.
If you’re familiar with our calendars from previous years, then this year you may notice a few upgrades. The most obvious of these is the binding. We upgraded to a spiral coil binding rather than a saddle stitch or staple. This allows the calendar to lay flat when hanging and display more naturally. This also makes it easier to write on the calendar. I don’t know about you, but I like to mark all sorts of stuff on my calendar. Hopefully you do too as this calendar has a fresh new monthly grid design with large format daily blocks; plenty of space for those important notes. I also added the Lunar cycle and Solstice/Equinox dates to this year’s calendar.
But What About the Real Stars of This Year’s Calendar?!
Before I bore you with any more stats or details, let’s have a look at the real stars of the show here! This year’s calendar features 13 diverse and distinguished felines; all of which were photographed at Indianapolis Animal Care Services.
Our cover model, Clyde, is 15 years old, handsome as can be, and one of several seniors. You’ll also notice a few ear-tipped kitties in the bunch - #communitycats! But despite each of their singular and unique natures, one thing they all have in common is their indomitable spirit. See for yourself.
How It All Started
Several years ago, I began volunteering at our city’s animal shelter, Indianapolis Animal Care Services. After being exposed to so many different cats, I quickly realized that they were all individuals. And every one of them had a singular fire. Each with their own, unique personalities; their own stories. Even their own goals. And so it became my mission to show people that one-of-a-kind spirit. So that they might see them as I do - as more than just animals.
So, naturally I began taking adoption photos of IACS shelter cats using my old crime scene camera (complete with a broken lens). I had avoided photography for many years prior due to its association with the war and those memories, but it seemed fitting that those skills and equipment were being repurposed to help shelter cats get adopted. The start of a new life.
I’ve taken thousands of photos of shelter cats since then. The next logical step was to share them with the world; to help spread awareness for shelter cats. In particular, those shelter cats who are often overlooked due to their appearance or age. Thus, the IACS Feline Alumni calendar was created. I truly hope that you enjoy it.
100% of the Proceeds Donated to the Cats of IACS
While the primary goal of this project is to spread awareness about shelter cats, it is also a fundraiser which directly benefits the cats of our city’s animal shelter, Indianapolis Animal Care Services. All funds generated from this project are donated to the Community Cat Fund at Friends of Indianapolis Animal Care Services Foundation, 501(c)(3).
The Community Cat Fund is a cat only fund, and its resources are used to help any cat that comes into IACS as a stray. This includes things like medical care for sick or injured strays, and helping to fund TNR within the Indianapolis Community. And just to clarify. ‘Stray’ doesn’t necessarily mean that the cat will be returned to the field. Many of these strays get adopted and go on to find families of their own.
